Studbook Breeding Programme Pyxis arachnoides
In Summer 1999, the Studbook Breeding Programme Pyxis arachnoides was initiated. After making an inventory of specimens already present in captivity, it was decided to start a studbook officially. Click here for an explanation about studbooks and the organisation in general. All three subspecies (P. a. arachnoides, P. a. brygooi and P. a. oblonga) are represented in the studbook population. You will need Acrobat Reader 4.0 or higher to view this file; download it for free.

Activities and plans for activities are being drawn up in annual studbook reports. These can be downloaded as PDF-files. You will need Acrobat Reader 4.0 or higher to view these files; download it for free.

Keepers of Pyxis arachnoides are welcome to send me a message in case they are interested to participate in the Studbook Breeding Programme Pyxis arachnoides by registering their specimens. Apart from facilitating the exchange of (breeding) information, a registration would allow to exchange captive bred hatchlings in a way that minimises the chance of inbreeding in the captive population.
